I began this blog by talking about the new year and my plans to make it count so I thought today I would go a bit deeper. No, this blog is not always going to be serious and deep but I think that this is the time of year where a lot of people, including myself are looking for direction. We’re examining ourselves and our lives and trying to figure out what we want going forward. We make resolutions, goals, lists and maybe sometimes actually do some of the things that we plan.
I have found that making goals/resolutions/etc. just isn’t enough so this year I did things a bit differently. Lara Casey was a big help in organizing myself a bit more in regards to my goals and setting forth a plan that can work. I really recommend reading her posts on making it happen in 2013. So inspirational! She asks you to make lists, lots of them. Lists on what worked last year and what didn’t. Lists about what you want in the coming year and more importantly, why. The biggest change for me this year was not only making my goals but writing down specific steps to take to achieve them. Now you may be saying, “Um, Brandie, isn’t that kinda common sense to think of how to make the things you want happen?” and I would say yes and no. Of course most of us would think about how to make our dreams come true, how to achieve our goals, but how often do we really go deep into the steps we need to take to do that? When you take the time to really make goals that mean something in your life, chances are they aren’t all things that you will easily come by. They’ll take work, planning, steps. It will be hard. Writing those steps down, really looking at the hard work that you will have to put in, at the stepping out of your comfort zone that you will have to do? Most people don’t actually do that and in my opinion that is why so many aren’t reaching those goals and living their dreams. I’m tired of my dreams just being dreams. I’m ready to step outside of my comfort zone and live the life that I always dreamed of. Aren’t you? I am a visual person so along with my many, many lists, I made a Pinterest board of inspiring images that paint a picture of my goals for the year and really for my life for many years to come. If you have one too I would love to see it so post your link in the comments section:)
One last thing that I did to inspire me in this new year is picking my One Little Word. One word that will be my beacon for the year. It is what I want my year to look like, be shaped like and defined by.
Soar
1. a, to fly aloft or about. b, to sail or hover in the air often at a great height. 2. to rise or increase dramatically (as in position, value, or price) 3. to ascend to a higher or more exalted level <makes my spirits soar>
This year I am all about soaring! I think these lyrics from Wicked sum it up nicely♥
Defying Gravity (Wicked)
Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!
It’s time to try Defying gravity
I think I’ll try Defying gravity
And you can’t pull me down!
So if you care to find me
